Please take notice, the Mount Vernon City School District will hold Superintendent’s Conference Day on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and it will be an early dismissal for students. The printed calendar, which lists the date as March 12, is incorrect.
Middle and high school auditions will be held at Denzel Washington School of the Arts on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
An application must be complete prior to the audition.
The Mount Vernon City School District is offering subsidized Metro Cards for $145 per semester, half of the full price of $290, for all grade 7-12 students. The Metro Card is only valid on Bee-Line buses, not MTA. Cards are valid for five months, September through January and February through June. Cards are valid Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. with up to four trips per day.

Bryce Marable is a Mount Vernon STEAM Academy senior who shows perseverance through hard work and dedication to his academics. Experiencing a significant change after transferring from outside of the District to STEAM, Bryce has demonstrated that his education and securing a bright future come before all.
Yanick St. Cyr and Anna Valinda Mendy, Mount Vernon High School 12th-grade Nursing Assistant Program students, volunteered at the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) SkillsUSA Regional Competition on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Center for Career Services. Yanick and Anna are also in the SkillsUSA Club at MVHS.
The Mount Vernon City School District’s superintendent search survey, conducted by Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), has been extended to Monday, February 24, 2025, at 11:59 p.m., to allow for further engagement with the community. HYA will present their leadership profile report at the Board of Education on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
Parents throughout the Mount Vernon City School District entered the buildings of their children's school, ready to join them for a day full of learning and fun during the 28th annual Parent Involvement Day on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Celine Buchanan, a senior and dance major at the Denzel Washington School of the Arts, maintains her spot in the top 10% of her school by staying extremely dedicated to her academics and artistry. Over the past four years, Celine has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, a consistent spot on the honor roll, and dazzled members of the Mount Vernon community with her excellent dancing skills.
Mount Vernon Knights Varsity Wrestling held Senior Night on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and wrapped up the regular season earlier this week. Playoffs will start with divisional matches in Division A on Saturday, February 8, at the Westchester County Center.
A community forum was held at Mount Vernon Honor Academy on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, for District staff, parents and families, and other members of the Mount Vernon community to provide input that will help shape a desired profile for the next leader of the Mount Vernon City School District. Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) will outline selection criteria for the District's next superintendent and leadership characteristics that align with the District’s needs. HYA will present a report to the Board of Education on Thursday, February 13.
Rebecca Challop, a fifth-grade teacher at Traphagen School, recently received a $750 grant from the Rotary Club. Grant funds from the award will be used to purchase new, engaging books for her students to enjoy in the classroom library.
